Our next stop is a rest stop along the highway south of Coober Pedy.

We pulled in around lunchtime and decided that would do for the day and by late evening there would have been at least 20 other vans overnighting as well. We refuelled in CP and then drove out to the Breakaways which were 11km off the highway along a very dusty, corrugated dirt road. We took it slow with Destiny behind as we really wanted to see what was there. The name is due to the fact that when viewed a certain way the mountains look as though they have broken away from the nearby Stuart Range.
The Breakaways
It reminded us of the Ochre Pits with the variety of colours in the rocks. Another view that begs to be painted. Will have quite a few of these once I return and will have to put that spinning wheel aside and pull out the paint and brushes instead, just to have a go.
Only a few kilometres further along the highway we came to the famous Dog Fence.
The Dog Fence

This was built to help protect the graziers’ animals from the dingoes and wild dogs in the north. The fence crosses the highway here and the grid on the road is much wider than the usual cattle grid. We decided to spend the night on power at Cadney Roadhouse before heading out towards Marla and the SA NT border.
